La polémique sur les coûts du travail en Europe déferle sur la campagne électorale française

Une étude d'Eurostat a révélé d'énormes différences en matière de coûts du travail entre les 27 Etats membres de l'UE. Cette étude, publiée hier (24 avril), a apporté de l'eau au moulin de la campagne électorale française, alors que les deux candidats avancent leurs arguments pour ou contre une TVA sociale qui viserait à protéger les producteurs français contre le dumping social.

According to the survey, hourly labour costs for 2011 range from €3.5 in Bulgaria to €39.3 in Belgium, the highest in the European Union, ahead of Sweden (€39.1). The average hourly labour cost for the eurozone is of €27.6, higher than the EU-27 average (€23.1). Other EU countries with cheap labour costs include Romania (€4.2) Lithunaia (€5.5), Latvia (€5.9), Poland (€7.1), Hungary (€7.6), Estonia (€8.1), Slovakia (€8.4), the Czech Republic (€10.5). In Germany, the hourly labour cost is €30.1, significantly higher than France's €34.2.
This difference in wages has stoked tensions between Europe's two largest economies and the dominant nations within the 17-country Eurozone. Labour costs in Germany have grown at the slowest pace than in any other EU country. In France, labour costs grew twice as fast.
