L'agence de notation revoit à la baisse ses prévisions en raison de "l'incertitude croissante" sur l'issue de la crise en zone euro.

L'agence de notation Moody's a ramené, lundi, de "stable" à "négative" la perspective de la note qu'elle accorde à l'Union européenne, disant s'aligner sur les baisses de perspectives d'importants pays membres comme l'Allemagne et la France. Moody's signifie ainsi qu'elle n'exclut pas d'abaisser la note de l'Union européenne à moyen terme, même si dans l'immédiat elle l'a maintenue à "Aaa", soit le plus haut niveau possible dans sa classification.[…] La Commission européenne peut emprunter de l'argent sur les marchés au nom de l'UE pour faire des prêts aux pays membres, notamment dans le cadre du mécanisme européen de stabilisation financière

German exporters suffered their biggest drop in international orders in more than three years in August, according to a survey released on Monday. Retailers too are starting to feel the impact of the euro crisis. Europe's largest economy, it seems, is losing its immunity to Europe's debt problems.

Exports are a major pillar of the German economy, but now the sector is starting to feel the impact of the euro crisis and the global economc slowdown. German export orders fell in August by the highest rate in more than three years, the Markit financial information company announced Monday after conducting a survey of 500 industrial firms. "Survey respondents commented on a general slowdown in global demand and particular weakness in new business inflows from Southern Europe," the institute said. The firms hardest hit by declines are manufacturers of machinery and other investment goods

La Commission enquête sur Gazprom pour une affaire antitrust

La Commission européenne mène une enquête sur le géant russe de l’énergie, Gazprom, qui aurait entravé la concurrence sur les marchés gaziers d’Europe centrale et orientale, en violation des règles antitrust de l’UE.

Lors de cette procédure officielle, le monopole russe sur l'exportation de gaz devrait être examinée. L'entreprise fournit 36 % du gaz importé en Europe. « La Commission craint que Gazprom n'abuse de sa position de leader du marché sur les marchés de distribution de gaz dans les États membres d'Europe centrale et orientale, en violation de l'article 102 du traité sur le fonctionnement de l'Union européenne », a déclaré l'exécutif européen dans un communiqué publié hier (4 septembre).

Global crisis moves East as China suffers rapid downturn

China’s industrial output is contracting at the fastest pace since the depths of the global financial crisis, with knock-on effects spreading across the Far East.

 “It just keeps getting worse,” said Alistair Thornton and Xianfang Ren from IHS Global Insight. “The government has underestimated the pace of the slowdown and is behind the curve.” The HSBC/Markit manufacturing index for China fell to 47.6 in August, the lowest since the onset of Great Recession in late 2008. Inventories are rising. The index for new export orders fell to the lowest since March 2009. “Beijing must step up policy easing to stabilise growth,” said Hongbin Qu from HSBC. China’s official PMI manufacturing index – weighted to big companies – also fell through the contraction line of 50, though services are holding up better. Evidence of a hard landing over the summer is becoming clearer.

EU probe may spark wider dispute : EU investigation into China's solar industry 'could lead to retaliation'

China is considering taking retaliatory measures against a likely investigation by the European Commission into Chinese photovoltaic companies, a source from the Ministry of Commerce said on Tuesday.

Media reports have speculated that the commission, the executive body of the European Union, will announce such an investigation before Thursday. The action is being sought by Germany's SolarWorld and other European companies, which on July 24 filed an anti-dumping complaint against their Chinese competitors.

La dernière vague de l’enquête du Pew Research Center sur les valeurs des américains  fait ressortir une polarisation croissante de la société  américaine qui se traduit par une distance de plus en plus grande entre électeurs démocrates et électeurs républicains. Les clivages partisans que l’on dit affaiblis en Europe redeviennent très prégnants aux Etats-Unis. A la veille des élections américaines cette réalité mérite d’être examinée de près.

L’écart gauche (démocrates)/droite(républicains) le plus important concerne la protection sociale. La polarisation, ici, est récente et découle des réformes du président Obama, notamment l’ « Obamacare ».
