Life is already pretty miserable for European makers of midprice cars, and from the looks of the Geneva auto show, it is about to get worse.
Companies like Opel, the European unit of General Motors, and PSA Peugeot Citroën of France already suffer from a surplus of production at a time when the European car market is shrinking and the economy is under stress from the debt crisis.
At the same time, they are under pressure at the low end of the market from the likes of the South Korean carmaker Hyundai Motor and its affiliate Kia.
